Coming Into Glacier Bay

Looking into the mountains and seeing the "frozen rivers" better known as glaciers.

First sight of the Hubbard Glacier...see the river of ice coming down the mountain.  Hubbard glacier is 76 miles long and 0ver 400 yeard old.

 Our Captain is noted for having the courage to take th ship in close for people to see this beautiful glacier.  Again, you can see the river of ice coming in another direction feeding into the Hubbard gladier. 

This is Russell Glacier which is to the left of Hubbard Glacier.  This is why this bay is called "Glacier Bay" because of so many glaciers coming down these mountains. 

AMAZING!!!

If you double click on this picture it will get bigger and you can see the small black dot in front of the glacier.  It is a commercial fishing boat...gives one the perspective of size...amazing!

When Marilyn and I were traveling the hights of the White Trail Pass...Rhonda and Mary went dog sledding (summer style by wheeled cart.

Watch out...here they come!

Both Rhonda and Mary got loved up by the dogs.  What a great experience they had...maybe next time!

Sister Sharon Nohner's trip to Alaska 2011

We arrived in Washington State and spent a few days at Marilyn's home in Roy WA.  WE had fresh blueberries and wonderful prayers prepared by Rhonda...and a bit of yard work to help Marilyn and get a hands into the dirt...which is always good for the soul!

OK...believe this one!  I did her whole yard!  Watch out...I may try this next summer at the lake!

Radiance of the Sea Cruise Ship

Hi everyone!  I am trying this out for the first time, I hope I can figure out how to do this.  I so want to be able to share the wonderful photos and a bit of my trip to Alaska.  It was wonderful!  These are my three traveling mates, Rhonda Suchy, Marilyn Mause and Mary Kasper.  We were waiting for a bus to take us from Seattle WA to Vancouver BC to get the "Radiance of the Sea" Roayl Carribean Cruise ship to start our adventure.

This is the Visitors building in the town of Skagway.  It is covered by drift wood.  Very unique.  We did go into the famous Red Onion Saloon

The scenery as we sailed away from Skagway.  We were headed to Glacier Bay.

Last port of call: Skagway

Marilyn and I took the White Pass Trail train up the mountain where the miners went by foot up to the Yukon.  It is straight up!  We had mountain on one side and steep cliffs on the other side...straight down.  As we went up we got into the clouds.

You would look down the ravine and mountain and see these rivers with the rapids flowing fast.  We were told that these rapids are too dangerous to ride down.

 This is the top of the mountain and it borders on Canada...this is the US Customs office and it says:
"On to Alaska Buchanan", now I can't remember the story...but I am sure you can google it and find out all aobut it!



Salmon Fishery and museum

This is the Salmon ladder at the Fishery in Juneau.  The next picture is the sorting tanks for the different kinds of Salmon.  From the sorting tank they harvest the eggs and sperm of the Salmon for spawning the Salmon.

This is the salmon ladder where they swim up stream and into the fishery.  Note there is a little sea otter who took andvantage of the salmon being captured...an easy catch for lunch! 

As close to a bear as I wanted to get!  This was in the store/exhibit/museum at the fishery in Juneau.  My sister-in-law Amy caught a flounder and we saw one in the large round aquarium...really quite a fish to catch!  We also saw the different types of salmon and one like Johnny caught while he was fishing with the family in Alaska a week earlier.
