First Land trip---Ketchican

Our first "port of call" was Ketchican.  They get so much rain there that they measure it by feet rather than inches.  We are standing at the landing where we are greeted with the eagle...not only wooden carved ones, but also many of them sat as sentinels in the tree!  They were beautiful!

I took the tour of the Potlach Park which toured us through many totems and their stories.  This totem is a marking for a clan....it would normally sit outside a house on the lawn and mark the clan of those who live in the houses.  You clan is passed down through your mother, a raven marries a raven and an eagle marries an eagle.

This totem tells the story of the "fog women" whose husband was lost at sea.  The eagle and the whale found him and told the woman that her husband would return after many days journey.
